History of Federal FM

Myanmar has a long history of civil conflict and civil war between the successive Myanmar governments and the minority ethnic armies fighting for greater autonomy since its independence from Britain in 1948. Moreover, since the military coup d’état in 1962, Myanmar has been repetitively faced with civil conflicts that were on and off from time to time between the country’s military rulers and a large portion of its citizens struggling for the restoration of democratic rule. In 2011, Myanmar returned to a tentative democratic liberalization and the country enjoyed the accompanying freedom it had never tasted since 1962. However, it was short-lived. Once again, the Myanmar military seized state power on February 1, 2021, on the eve of Aung San Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy (NLD) party’s second term in office, for alleged electoral frauds. The NLD leaders, including Aung San Suu Kyi, were detained.

The General Strike Committee of Nationalities is one of the strongest strike committees and covers the strike activities. Plus, one of the Bama representatives of GSCN got the initial idea when they shut down the internet and mobile data as well as social media to initiate FM program with technicians, GZ, strike committee members, and social influencers. On 27th March 2021, Federal FM was on Air for the first time in Yangon to address federal issues and revolution news to the general public.
